Over three years, BILL is the only one of the three whose full cost you can calculate from its own pricing page, Tipalti publishes a floor but not its transaction pricing, and AvidXchange publishes nothing. For a five person AP team paying 300 bills a month, BILL's list prices work out to roughly $17,700 to $24,900 over 36 months once per-payment fees are included. Tipalti starts at $3,564 for the same period before per-invoice and per-payment charges that it quotes privately. AvidXchange is quote only and shifts much of its payment cost onto your suppliers.

That asymmetry is the real finding. Comparison pages that give you a single number for all three are mixing published prices with guesses. Below, every figure is labeled with where it came from, and anything we could not verify is marked as a quote item rather than filled in.

What each vendor actually publishes

Tipalti's own Acumatica article quotes a start of $129 per month, which conflicts with its pricing page, so use the pricing page and ask for the current figure in writing. AvidXchange lists no rates; per-transaction percentages that appear on review sites are third-party estimates, not AvidXchange's published pricing.

To make the numbers comparable, here is one mid-market scenario built only from published figures: five AP users, 300 bills a month, paid as 250 ACH payments and 50 checks.

The BILL payment fee line is 250 ACH at $0.59 plus 50 checks at $1.99, which is $247 a month or $8,892 over three years. In this scenario the fees are as large as the Essentials subscription, which is why BILL's cost moves more with payment volume than with headcount. Add one more approver seat on the Team plan and the three year total rises by $2,340.

BILL charges every user. A team that grows from five to eight users on the Team plan adds $7,020 over three years before a single extra bill is paid. Ask BILL which roles in your approval chain need a paid seat on the tier you pick, because tiers also differ in approval and sync features.

Transaction pricing and entities for Tipalti

Tipalti's page says monthly cost depends on the number of payments, legal entities, enabled modules and payment methods and currencies, with no per-user fee. That makes it cheap for a large team with modest volume and more expensive for many entities or heavy global payouts. Get the per-invoice and per-payment rates in the order form, not just the platform fee.

Supplier-paid fees for AvidXchange

AvidXchange's model charges suppliers for many AvidPay payments under a supplier services agreement, so the buyer side can look inexpensive. The cost does not disappear. Some vendors push back, ask for checks, or build it into their prices. If you have suppliers who refuse to pay to be paid, ask how AvidXchange handles them before you sign. AvidXchange has also been private since October 2025, when Corpay and TPG took it private in a deal worth about $2.2 billion, so renewal pricing is worth locking in.

Implementation and switching

Tipalti includes standard implementation and charges for complex setups. AvidXchange does not publish implementation terms. BILL is self-serve. For a three year view, also price the exit: exporting vendor records, bank details and payment history if you leave.

Which one is cheaper for your team

• Small team, domestic vendors, want payments handled end to end: BILL is usually the most predictable, because every line is published. Budget the payment fees, not just the seats.
• Global suppliers, several entities, large approver group: Tipalti's no per-user model tends to win, and its costs sit in the transaction and entity lines you negotiate.
• Mid-market team on an ERP AvidXchange supports, suppliers happy to be paid by AvidPay: AvidXchange can cost the buyer least, provided supplier pushback stays low.

There is a fourth path worth pricing. If your bank already sends ACH and you print checks, the expensive part of AP is capture, coding and approval rather than moving money. AvidXchange does not publish pricing, so the monthly cost comes from a quote based on invoice volume, modules and ERP. Yes. From a bank account, BILL charges $0.59 per ACH payment and $1.99 per check, with higher fees for instant and faster payments. At a few hundred payments a month those fees can equal or exceed the subscription, so model them over the full contract term.
