What decides Beanworks vs Tipalti
Six points where Quadient AP and Tipalti really differ for a US finance team.
Where your suppliers are
Tipalti is built for cross-border payouts with FX and local rails. Quadient AP pays by US ACH, Canadian EFT and virtual card. Count last year's international payments first.
How the bill grows
Tipalti adds per-invoice and per-payment transaction pricing to a published base. Quadient AP grows by modules and invoice volume. Model both at your real volume.
Approver count
Both include unlimited users, so neither punishes a wide approval chain. That makes per-seat tools the outlier, not these two.
Approval depth
Quadient AP routes by amount, department or supplier with reminders and escalation across invoices, POs and expenses. That is its core.
Supplier tax forms
Tipalti collects and validates W-9 and W-8 forms and supports 1099 and 1042-S reporting. Essential if you pay foreign contractors.
Ledger connection
Both connect to QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct and Dynamics. Ask whether each link is a live API or a scheduled file.
How to compare Beanworks and Tipalti quotes
Four steps that turn two sales calls into numbers you can put side by side.
Count your payments by type
Split last year's payments into domestic ACH, check, wire and international. This decides which product fits before price does.
Send both vendors one written scope
Same invoice count, payment mix, approvers and entities to each, and ask for a three-year total including implementation.
Price every module up front
Get Quadient AP's price for all four modules and Tipalti's for Procurement, Expenses and Treasury, even if you start without them.
Test capture on your own invoices
Upload a real invoice above to see line-level extraction and GL coding before you commit to any annual contract.
Quote-only AP software vs a published plan
What changes when you can see the price before the call.
Quote-only demo first
- Price revealed after a sales call
- Annual contract before you test
- Per-payment or module fees added later
- Weeks of implementation
AutoPayables published plan
- $49 or $149 a month on the pricing page
- First 20 invoices as a one-time trial
- No per-payment fee from us, files go out from your bank
- Upload an invoice and see coded lines in minutes
Who should pick which
Match the product to the payables you actually run.
Importer or SaaS company paying overseas suppliers
Tipalti. Multi-currency payouts and W-8 collection are its core, and the published starting price helps budgeting.
Multi-department company with heavy approval traffic
Quadient AP. Unlimited users and routing by department or supplier keep budget owners in the loop without seat costs.
Domestic US team on QuickBooks, Xero or NetSuite
AutoPayables, if you want AI capture, PO matching and ACH or check files from your own bank at a published monthly price.
Company on older Sage or Dynamics GP
Quadient AP lists Sage 50, 100, 300, 500 and Dynamics GP, which few cloud-first tools connect to.
Beanworks vs Tipalti, the short answer
Beanworks is now Quadient AP, so Beanworks vs Tipalti is really Quadient AP vs Tipalti. The deciding question is where your suppliers are. Tipalti is built to pay suppliers in 196 countries and 120 currencies and to collect the tax forms that go with them, and it publishes starting prices of $99 a month for Accounts Payable. Quadient AP is built for approval control over invoices, purchase orders, expenses and payments in the US and Canada, with unlimited users, and it does not publish a price. If more than a handful of your vendors are paid across a border, Tipalti is the stronger fit. If almost everyone you pay is domestic and your pain is chasing approvals, Quadient AP is.

Quadient AP facts come from Quadient's product pages and ERP Research's listing. Tipalti facts come from Tipalti's pricing page, which we re-checked this month, and its product pages. G2's comparison page shows Tipalti at 4.5 out of 5 and Quadient Accounts Payable at 4.4 out of 5, close enough that review scores should not decide this for you.
Quadient AP vs Tipalti pricing
Tipalti is one of the few vendors in this category that prints a number. Its pricing page lists Accounts Payable plans starting at $99 a month and Mass Payments plans starting at $249 a month, both with unlimited users and a supplier or payee portal. Then it adds transaction pricing per invoice and per payment, optional modules for Procurement, Expenses and Treasury, and professional services for complex setups. The starting price is real, but it is the smallest line on a Tipalti invoice for any team that pays a few hundred suppliers a month. Tipalti's own Acumatica blog quotes "starts at $129 per month", so ask which figure applies to your configuration.
Quadient AP prints nothing. A quote is built from the modules you take (invoices, purchase orders, expenses, payments) and your invoice volume, with users and storage unlimited. That structure suits a company where thirty department heads approve invoices, because adding approvers costs nothing. The trap is the second year. Teams often start with the invoice module and add purchase orders and payments later, which means two more modules at renewal. Ask for the price of all four on day one.
To make two proposals comparable, send both vendors the same scope in writing: yearly supplier invoice count, number of payments split by domestic ACH, check and international, number of approvers, and number of legal entities. Ask for a three-year total including implementation and every per-transaction fee. Our Tipalti pricing breakdown and Quadient AP pricing guide list the variables that move each quote.
Is Tipalti better than Quadient AP?
Tipalti is better than Quadient AP when you pay suppliers outside the US and Canada, because it handles currency conversion, local payment rails and supplier tax forms in one system. Quadient AP is better when your suppliers are domestic and the hard part is getting invoices approved on time, because its routing by amount, department or supplier, with reminders and escalation, is the core of the product. Neither is better at everything.
A simple test settles most evaluations. Pull last year's payment register and count payments that left the country. Under 5 percent and Tipalti's global network is capacity you pay for and rarely use. Over 20 percent and Quadient AP will leave you running those payments somewhere else, which brings back the manual work you bought software to remove.
Where Tipalti wins
Tipalti's strength is the back half of the process. Suppliers onboard themselves through a portal, enter their own bank details and complete a W-9 or W-8 form that Tipalti validates. That moves the riskiest step in AP, collecting bank details, away from email. For a US company paying contractors and suppliers abroad, the 1042-S and FATCA support is something most AP tools simply do not offer. Tipalti also runs multi-entity setups with consolidated payments, which matters if you operate several legal entities. If that describes you, Tipalti's published starting price makes budgeting easier than any quote-only rival.
Where Quadient AP wins
Quadient AP's strength is the front half. Invoices, purchase orders and employee expenses share one approval engine, and approval rules can follow amount, department or supplier with reminders and escalation built in. Unlimited users make it practical to put every budget owner in the workflow without counting seats. Its accounting list is broad for a mid-market tool, including Sage 50, 100, 300 and 500 and Dynamics GP, which matters to companies still on older on-premises systems. For a domestic company with heavy approval traffic, that is a better match than a payments-first platform.
Does Quadient AP pay international suppliers?
Quadient AP's payment module covers ACH in the US, EFT in Canada and virtual card. We found no documentation of a multi-currency cross-border payout network comparable to Tipalti's, so if you pay suppliers in Europe, Asia or Latin America, ask Quadient directly which rails and currencies are supported and who carries the FX cost. Tipalti's own Beanworks comparison is written for Canadian businesses, which tells you where the two products overlap most.
Which accounting systems do Beanworks and Tipalti integrate with?
Both cover the common mid-market ledgers: QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct and Microsoft Dynamics. Quadient AP goes further into older Sage and Dynamics products. Tipalti is strongest on NetSuite and other cloud ERPs. Ask each vendor whether the connection is a live two-way API or a scheduled file, because the same vendor can use different mechanisms for different ledgers, and that decides how quickly a coded invoice shows up in your books.
How long does implementation take?
Tipalti says standard implementation is included in the subscription and that complex environments may need paid professional services. Quadient AP is implemented after a sales process and module selection. Plan for weeks, not days, with either, and confirm in writing who maps your GL accounts, vendors and approval rules. If you would rather test capture on your own invoices before any of that, upload one at the top of this page.
A third option with a published price
Some teams comparing Beanworks and Tipalti do not need either one's full scope. If your suppliers are domestic, your payments go out as ACH, check or wire from your own bank, and you want AI capture, line-level GL coding, duplicate checks and PO matching without a sales cycle, AutoPayables costs $49 a month for 200 invoices or $149 a month for unlimited invoices, with no per-user fee. It syncs with QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite and Sage.
It is not a fit for everyone, and here is the honest list. AutoPayables does not move money for you or run a global payout network, it does not collect W-8 forms, it does not issue virtual cards, and it has one approval threshold rather than multi-step routing by department. If you need those, Tipalti or Quadient AP is the right shortlist.
