Ottimate competitors, compared honestly
Ottimate Alternatives: Ottimate Competitors and Ottimate vs BILL Compared

Ottimate, formerly Plate IQ, is strong on line-item capture for restaurants and hospitality, but it publishes no pricing and its center of gravity is food and beverage. This page compares the six alternatives worth shortlisting on the things that decide an AP purchase: published pricing, capture accuracy, approval routing, accounting integrations and which fees land on your suppliers.

What to compare before you switch from Ottimate
The four things that actually decide an AP purchase, and where each vendor stands.
Line-item capture accuracy
Ottimate claims 98% on header, footer and line items, including handwritten invoices. If your invoice mix is handwritten delivery tickets, test any replacement on those exact documents before switching.
Published pricing
BILL, Tipalti and Ramp publish prices. Ottimate, Stampli and AvidXchange do not. That single fact changes how long your evaluation takes.
Approval routing depth
Multi-location groups need routing on location, department or vendor. Some tools offer a single approval threshold. Ask for the routing rules in writing.
Live API or file exchange
Several ERP connectors in this category are file-based exports rather than live bidirectional APIs. It changes reconciliation speed and almost never appears in the sales deck.
Who pays the payment fees
AvidPay Direct charges your suppliers a per-transaction fee, set in each Supplier Services Agreement. A supplier-side fee is still a cost to your business.
Audit trail quality
Every approval should be recorded with who approved, what they saw and when. This is the part auditors ask about and the part demos skip.
How to run a switch evaluation in three weeks
Most AP evaluations drag because nobody defines the test up front. This is the short version.
Pull 30 real invoices
Include your worst ones: handwritten, multi-page, multi-line, wrong vendor name. Demo files prove nothing. Make every vendor run these exact documents.
Ask the integration question in writing
Is the connector to our accounting system a live bidirectional API or a file exchange, and what is the sync interval? Get the answer in email, not on a call.
Get pricing broken into four lines
Platform fee, per-user fee, per-entity fee, payment fees. A low headline number usually hides at least one of the other three.
Score coding accuracy, not capture accuracy
Everyone reads a total correctly. The work is coding the lines to the right accounts. Count how many lines each tool coded correctly without a human touching them.
Manual AP against automated capture and coding
The gap that any tool on this page should close for you.
Keying invoices by hand
- Someone types vendor, dates and totals from a PDF
- One GL account per invoice, splits done in a spreadsheet
- Approvals chased over email with no record of who saw what
- Month end close waits on a pile of unentered paper
- Vendor terms and 1099 status live in someone's memory
Automated capture with line-level coding
- Fields are read on arrival with a confidence score on each extraction
- Every invoice line carries its own GL account
- Approvals recorded against the invoice in an audit log
- Invoices are captured and coded as they arrive
- Vendor records hold tax ID, 1099 flag, terms and remittance details
Who each Ottimate alternative actually suits
Matched to the buyer, not to a feature matrix.
Multi-unit restaurant or hotel group
Ottimate is genuinely hard to beat on handwritten food and beverage line items. If that is your invoice mix, the honest advice is to negotiate rather than switch, and to price Tipalti's per-entity fee before you consider it.
Accounting firm running many client books
BILL, because most accountants already know it, it publishes pricing, and its integration list covers nearly every client ledger you will meet.
Company with a heavily customized ERP
Stampli, because it maps to more than 2,700 ERP-aligned fields. Confirm whether your specific connector is a live API or a file exchange before signing.
Business paying suppliers overseas
Tipalti, for supplier onboarding, tax form collection and multi-currency payment. Budget roughly $500 to $600 a month for each additional entity.
High-volume, paper-heavy AP
AvidXchange. Ask your suppliers first how they feel about a per-transaction AvidPay fee set in their own Supplier Services Agreement.
Team that wants predictable cost and line-level coding
AutoPayables. Free for 20 invoices a month, $49 for 200, $149 unlimited, with no per-user pricing. No payment rail and no accounting sync yet, so rule us out if you need either today.
Short answer: the strongest Ottimate alternatives are BILL for broad accounting-firm support, Stampli for deep ERP field mapping, Tipalti for international supplier payments, AvidXchange for high-volume paper-heavy AP, and Ramp for teams that want bill pay bundled with cards. Ottimate itself remains a strong fit for multi-unit restaurants and hospitality groups. Which one wins depends on how many entities you run, whether you need line-item coding, and how much you are willing to pay per user.
Last updated September 2026. Pricing below is taken from each vendor's own published pricing page. Where a vendor does not publish list pricing, this page says so instead of guessing.
Ottimate alternatives at a glance

Why finance teams look for an Ottimate alternative
Ottimate is a capable product and the reasons people shop around are usually practical rather than a complaint about accuracy. Three come up repeatedly.
The first is pricing opacity. Ottimate publishes no list price, so the only way to size a budget is to run a sales cycle. If you are comparing four vendors and three of them make you do that, the evaluation takes months instead of weeks.
The second is vertical fit. Ottimate grew out of Plate IQ and its center of gravity is still food and beverage. It sells into restaurants, hotels, resorts and casinos, country clubs, senior living, grocery, retail, assisted care, dental practice networks, physician practice networks and accounting firms. If you are a construction contractor or a manufacturer, you are buying a product tuned for somebody else's invoices.
The third is the accounting system. Ottimate integrates with QuickBooks, NetSuite, Acumatica, Sage Intacct and Microsoft Dynamics. If your books live somewhere else, the integration question decides the shortlist before any feature does.
What Ottimate actually claims
Worth stating plainly, because a fair comparison should start with the incumbent's real strengths. Ottimate claims header, footer and line item capture at 98% accuracy, and says this holds even on handwritten invoices. It reports processing more than 40 million invoices a year, over $30 billion in payables, roughly 120,000 invoice pages a day, and recognition of about 500 new vendors daily. It says customers save around 1,000 hours a year. Its payment product, VendorPay, sends virtual card, ACH and check.
Line-item capture on handwritten delivery invoices is genuinely hard, and it is the reason Ottimate holds the restaurant market. If that is your invoice mix, do not switch away from it casually.
Ottimate vs BILL
This is the comparison people run most often, and the two products are aimed at different buyers. BILL is broad and horizontal: it serves small businesses and the accounting firms that serve them, and it publishes its pricing, which shortens evaluation. Essentials runs $49 per user per month, Team $65, and Corporate $89, with a custom Enterprise tier.
The catch is the per-user model. AP approvals pull in budget holders, and every one of them may need a seat. A 12-person approval chain on Corporate is over $1,000 a month before a single invoice is processed. Ottimate does not publish pricing at all, so you cannot run that arithmetic in advance, but multi-unit groups often find that a volume-based quote beats per-seat pricing once approvers are counted.
On capture, Ottimate is stronger on line items for food and beverage invoices. On breadth of accounting integrations and on the sheer number of accountants who already know the product, BILL wins. Our fuller head to head is on the Ottimate vs BILL comparison.
Ottimate vs Stampli
Stampli is the alternative to look at if your ERP has a lot of custom structure. Stampli says its AI codes, matches and routes invoices, and describes handling 89% of the actual work. It maps to more than 2,700 ERP-aligned fields, which matters when your chart of accounts carries dimensions beyond a GL code.
Stampli does not publish pricing either, so on that axis it is no better than Ottimate. One thing worth checking before you sign: several of Stampli's ERP connectors are file-based exports rather than live bidirectional APIs. Its Sage 300 CRE and Vista by Viewpoint integrations both work by exchanging files. That is not necessarily a problem, but it changes how quickly data reconciles, and it is the kind of detail that only surfaces in implementation if you do not ask.
Ottimate vs Tipalti
Pick Tipalti when suppliers are outside the United States. It handles supplier onboarding, tax form collection, and payments in many currencies, and it publishes tiers: $99 for Select, $199 for Advanced, and custom pricing for Elevate, plus per-payment fees. Note that Tipalti's own Acumatica blog post says pricing "starts at $129 per month", which conflicts with the $99 on its pricing page. Ask which figure applies to you.
The number that catches people out is entity pricing. Additional entities run roughly $500 to $600 a month each. A hospitality group with eight legal entities should model that before comparing anything else. Ottimate handles multi-unit operations without that per-entity line, which is often why hospitality groups stay.
Ottimate vs AvidXchange
AvidXchange is built for high volume and for AP that is still substantially paper. It is strong in real estate, property management and construction, and it owns TimberScan through its acquisition of Core Associates. It does not publish list pricing.
The item to understand is AvidPay Direct. AvidXchange charges the supplier a per-transaction fee on electronic payments, and the applicable rate is set in each individual Supplier Services Agreement rather than published. Fees under the Invoice Accelerator Program can differ from standard ones. Third-party sites quote figures such as 0.95% plus $1, but those are not AvidXchange published rates and should not be treated as fact. If your suppliers are small and fee-sensitive, ask them how they feel about it before you commit. More detail sits on our AvidXchange pricing breakdown.
Ottimate vs Ramp
Ramp is the cheapest credible option on this list because bill pay is included at no extra cost, and it carries more than 200 direct integrations. For a growing company that already wants corporate cards, consolidating spend and AP is a reasonable call.
Ramp is lighter where AP gets specialized. It has no native construction ERP connector and leans on universal CSV exports that match your chart of accounts and project codes. For a restaurant group processing thousands of line-item delivery invoices a month, Ramp's capture is not built for that shape of document the way Ottimate's is.
Where AutoPayables fits, honestly
We are not the right answer for everyone on this page, and pretending otherwise wastes your time. AutoPayables is worth a look if you want line-level GL coding without per-user pricing, and you can live with a young product. Every line on an invoice carries its own GL account, so a single invoice can be split across several accounts without a workaround. Pricing is free for 20 invoices a month, $49 for 200, and $149 for unlimited.
Here is what we do and what we do not do. We publish this table because AP buyers get burned by feature lists that quietly overstate.
| Capability | AutoPayables |
|---|---|
| AI capture of vendor, invoice number, dates, tax, totals and line items | Yes, by upload or email intake, with a confidence score stored per extraction |
| Line-level GL coding | Yes, every line carries its own GL account |
| Vendor records with tax ID, 1099 flag, payment terms and remittance details | Yes |
| Purchase order records | Yes, with a purchase orders screen |
| Approval routing | One numeric approval threshold, with an approval audit log. No multi-level, role-based, department or vendor routing |
| Two-way or three-way PO matching | No |
| Duplicate invoice detection | No |
| Sync to QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite or Sage | Not yet. On our roadmap. A REST API is available on the Scale plan |
| Paying suppliers | No payment rail. We record payments and allocations, we do not move money |
| Multi-entity or subsidiary consolidation | No |
| Accounts receivable | No |
If you need to pay suppliers from inside the tool today, choose BILL, Tipalti, AvidXchange or Ramp. If you need three-way matching, choose Stampli or Tipalti. If what you actually need is accurate capture and clean line-level coding at a predictable price, we are worth 20 minutes.
What is the best alternative to Ottimate?
For most teams leaving Ottimate, BILL is the best all-round alternative because it publishes pricing, integrates with nearly every accounting system, and is already familiar to most accountants. Choose Tipalti instead if you pay international suppliers, Stampli if your ERP has heavy custom field structure, and AvidXchange if your invoice volume is high and still largely paper.
How much does Ottimate cost per month?
Ottimate does not publish pricing, so there is no honest monthly figure to quote. Pricing is quoted per organization after a sales conversation and generally reflects invoice volume, number of locations and which payment features you enable. Anyone publishing a specific Ottimate monthly price is guessing. Ask for a quote that separates the platform fee from payment fees.
Is Ottimate the same as Plate IQ?
Yes. Ottimate is the current name of the product that launched as Plate IQ. The rebrand kept the same platform and the same food and beverage focus, so older reviews written about Plate IQ generally still describe the product accurately, though pricing and integration lists have moved on.
Which Ottimate competitor is best for multi-location approval workflows?
For multi-location approvals, Stampli and Tipalti are the strongest, because both support genuine multi-level routing rather than a single threshold. Stampli routes on ERP-aligned fields, so a location or department can drive the approval path. Tipalti supports approval structures across entities, though each additional entity adds roughly $500 to $600 a month. Check per-entity cost before per-user cost.
How to run the evaluation
Do these four things and the decision usually makes itself. Take 30 real invoices, including your ugliest handwritten or multi-page ones, and make every vendor process those exact documents rather than a clean demo file. Ask each vendor in writing whether the connector to your accounting system is a live API or a file exchange. Get pricing that separates the platform fee, per-user fees, per-entity fees and payment fees, because a low headline price often hides three of those. Finally, ask which fees land on your suppliers rather than on you, since a supplier-side fee is still a cost to your relationships.
If controls and evidence are the reason you are switching, our accounts payable audit software guide covers what an auditor actually wants to see in an AP trail, and the wider best AP automation software roundup ranks the full category rather than just Ottimate's rivals.
Frequently asked questions
For most teams leaving Ottimate, BILL is the best all-round alternative because it publishes pricing, integrates with nearly every accounting system, and most accountants already know it. Choose Tipalti if you pay international suppliers, Stampli if your ERP has heavy custom field structure, and AvidXchange if your volume is high and still largely paper.
Ottimate does not publish pricing, so there is no honest monthly figure to quote. It is priced per organization after a sales conversation, and generally reflects invoice volume, number of locations and which payment features you turn on. Ask for a quote that separates the platform fee from payment fees.
Yes. Ottimate is the current name of the product that launched as Plate IQ. The rebrand kept the same platform and the same food and beverage focus, so older Plate IQ reviews usually still describe the product accurately, although pricing and integration lists have moved on since.
Stampli and Tipalti are the strongest for multi-location approvals because both support genuine multi-level routing rather than a single threshold. Stampli routes on ERP-aligned fields, so location or department can drive the path. Tipalti works across entities, but each extra entity costs roughly $500 to $600 a month.
Yes. Ottimate integrates with QuickBooks, NetSuite, Acumatica, Sage Intacct and Microsoft Dynamics. If your books sit outside that list, the integration question will narrow your shortlist before any feature comparison does, so confirm it first.
Yes, it is one of the better choices for restaurants. Ottimate grew out of Plate IQ and claims 98% accuracy on header, footer and line item capture, including handwritten invoices, which is exactly the document type restaurant AP deals with daily. Test any replacement on handwritten delivery tickets before switching.
AvidXchange charges the supplier a per-transaction fee on electronic AvidPay payments, and the applicable rate is set in each individual Supplier Services Agreement rather than published. Fees under the Invoice Accelerator Program can differ. Third-party figures circulating online are not AvidXchange published rates.
Usually yes, but confirm the export format in writing before you sign anything new. Ask your current vendor for a full export of invoices, coding and approval history, and ask what file format it arrives in. Approval history is the part most often left behind, and it is the part auditors ask for.
Test capture and line-level coding on your own invoices
Upload a real invoice above and see the vendor, dates, totals and individual lines come back coded. No sales call, and the first 20 invoices a month cost nothing.
